Our team at Winstar believes firmly that LED lighting is a win-win for businesses and the environment. The solution certainly helps users save money on their energy bills. Perhaps even more importantly, though, it is much better for the environment.
LEDs convert as much as 95 percent of the energy they use into light. This is significantly better than traditional lighting options, which convert as little as 10%. By saving so much energy, LED lighting can greatly reduce the amount of greenhouse gases being emitted in order to light up the world.
Another benefit, which is often overlooked, is that unlike fluorescent lights such as CFLs which contain mercury, LEDs have no toxic elements. When CFLs and other fluorescents break or are disposed of in landfills, they release these heavy metals, leading to serious damage to the environment. By making the switch to LEDs, this problem is avoided. Further, when completing our lighting retrofits, our Winstar team uses registered waste carriers to make sure old lights are disposed of correctly.
Not only do LEDs have fewer fragile parts and greater efficiency, they also have much longer lifespans. Typical LED lights can last up to 80,000 hours, whereas halogen light bulbs may last between 2,000 and 6,000 hours. This means fewer resources are needed to make products and there’s less waste in the end – all good things for the planet.
Switching to LED lighting is the right choice for your wallet and for the world around you. We at Winstar have made it our mission to ensure it’s as easy as possible to make the switch.
