Part of maintaining Winstar Lighting Technologies’ role as an industry leader means we must stay informed of all the latest events in our field. In doing so, we recently learned about an initiative of Urban Solar, an LED lighting and solar energy systems firm. In partnership with Clear Channel Outdoor and the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), it is providing bus stops throughout San Francisco with solar-powered LED solutions.
When the project is complete, Urban Solar’s lanterns will have been installed in roughly 3,300 bus stops. These are stand-alone lights, so there is no need to spend time and money digging trenches and adding utility poles. Knowing all the benefits this lighting design provides, Winstar Lighting Technologies hopes the use of LEDs in public spaces is a trend that will continue.
Jeff Peters, the President of Urban Solar, had some comments to share. He stated, “We are very pleased that SFMTA and Clear Channel Outdoor chose us for this green initiative. SFMTA and the City of San Francisco are great partners and an excellent location to showcase our technology. San Francisco’s west-coast weather can be challenging for solar systems in an urban setting. Our powerful controller and experienced design ensure it will have lit bus stops year round.”
Much like Urban Solar, Winstar Lighting Technologies is on a mission to use LED to brighten communities. We are inspired by this hard work in San Francisco, and can’t wait to find out which big city will be the next to make the transition.
