Everyone has a responsibility to care for the environment, and that includes Winstar. With our commitment to sustainability, we use only LED lighting that’s durable and of industry-leading quality in order to minimize waste. Yet because of the technology’s incredible energy efficiency, all LED lighting is eco-friendly to some degree. That’s because, when compared to all other lighting types, LEDs use much less energy, thereby shrinking carbon footprint size. Let us explain why in greater detail.
There is no doubt that LED lights are more efficient than their fluorescent and incandescent counterparts. In fact, they’re 80 percent more efficient! Rather than convert energy into heat, LEDs use most of the energy they consume to produce light. Incandescent lights, on the other hand, use 90 percent of their energy to produce heat. As a result, LED’s ratio of energy consumed to light produced is far better.
LEDs also draw less power in general. A 36-watt LED provides the same amount of light as an 84-watt fluorescent. This means less demand on power plants, and minimizes greenhouse gas emissions.
At Winstar, we are proud of the fact that there aren’t any toxic elements in LED lights. Fluorescents contain mercury and other noxious chemicals that pollute the environment when discarded in landfills. Not only that, but with LED there’s no need to pay for disposal through a special waste carrier.
LEDs are also more focused in terms of light distribution. Older types of lighting disperse light in all directions, in many cases where it isn’t even required. It’s a waste of energy and contributes to light pollution. LED bulbs focus light in only one direction, so fewer of them are needed to achieve desired brightness. Using fewer lights reduces energy consumption – another environmental benefit.
Finally, LED lights have longer lifespans than other options, which means infrequent need for replacement. As such, fewer lights are needed overall. Not as many resources are needed for manufacturing, packaging, and transportation.
