At Winstar, we’re working hard through our Brighter America Initiative to help businesses save money on their electric bills through LED lighting. Of course, there are other benefits to energy efficiency methods – they are also good for the environment. When saving money and saving energy meet, it’s hard to argue with the solution! Here are some tips for saving even more energy at home and at the office:
• Change Your Light Bulbs: Lighting takes up an incredible amount of energy. If you are using halogen or even compact fluorescent light bulbs, you are throwing money away. Changing a single bulb can save hundreds each year.
• Don’t Heat or Cool an Empty House: Invest in a programmable thermostat that will allow you to reduce your heating and air conditioning whenever you aren’t home. If you have any unused rooms, close the vents in them to minimize their impact.
• Replace Air Filters: We at Winstar were surprised to learn how much impact air filters have on heating and cooling systems. If they are dirty, they will restrict air flow, causing your air conditioner or furnace to work harder. Needless to say, it’s important to replace your filters regularly.
• Unplug Chargers: Unused chargers for things such as mobile phones, computers, and kitchen appliances take up an alarming amount of energy doing nothing. Make sure to always unplug electronics, especially chargers, that aren’t currently in use.
These simple tips will help you to save on your energy bill. At Winstar, we know the simplest changes often have the most significant impact on energy usage.
